Offering experiences has been a dream of mine since l opened The Bergamot over 10 years ago. At last everything is in place for me to share my real, small-town Southern Italian life. It’s like stepping back in time.

 

Coffee at the Piazza, shopping at the market or from vehicles parked at the side of the road. Learning to make our local pasta or how to construct a meal as an Italian mamma would. Enjoying the beach culture at a Lido (beach club) walking on pure white sand that sifts through your toes as you make your way to the crystal-clear sea (many are blue flag beaches).

 

And history, Matera, our regional capital is one of the oldest cities in the world, continuously inhabited for over 9000 years. We have traces of the Magna Grecia at Metaponto, where Pythagoras is believed to be buried, along with the remains of a Greek temple. On our doorstep, and your wakeup view each morning is the 14th Century Convent of San Francesco - breathtaking. Also, Craco - the ghost town is nearby.

 

The experiences can be flexed to suit - more cooking or beach or simply exploring.

 

For a maximum of 6 guests, we will have a professional taxi service at our disposal for all of our trips.

 

We will have time for slow lunches, sparkling aperitif, authentic pizza, people watching and just living the 'Dolce Vita'. Oh, and so much more.
